Beach Mission Blog: 1

I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms."
Ephesians 1:19 - 20 (Full passage: 15 - 23)

We're nearing the end of our fifth day in Perranporth and have spent the afternoon resting and reflecting on the week so far. It's been busy and challenging, but a positive start. We've seen God move in some significant ways already, both in our interaction with the people of Perranporth, and in us as individuals.

Highlights/Praise Points:

  • Perranporth Carnival: Lots of people were out to watch the parade around town on Saturday evening. The team dressed up as chefs to fit in with the theme of our morning shows this year. It was great to see people reacting so positively to us as we handed out flyers.
  • Movement: On Sunday we joined the local churches in running an event that ran until 6pm. There was a service on the inner green, followed by an afternoon of live music, children's activities and skate competitions. It was a great chance to be part of what the churches are already doing here in Perranporth and to reconnect with some of the families from previous years.
  • Turnout: The number of people coming along to the groups has increased again this year, which has been great to see. We're seeing lots of kids coming back, as well as plenty of new faces.
  • Answers to prayer: On Monday night, a lady on team asked for prayer for her hip, which was causing her a lot of discomfort. She was prayed for and woke the next morning without pain. We've also seen God bring specific people along to Connect, the adult outreach group. Emma, one of our team members, felt before the session that God wanted her to pray for the eyesight of a woman with curly black hair and glasses. A woman of this exact description came over to the group that morning, carrying a white stick. Emma was able to chat to her and pray for healing for her eyes.

Prayer:

Prayer is a particular focus for us this year, as we are challenged to think about different aspects of it every day in our morning meetings. We've been looking at what the Bible says about prayer, and how Jesus is an advocate for us. We in turn want to be advocates for the people of Perranporth. If you would like to join with us, below are some prayer points for the mission:

  • Prayer for good weather. We try to do as many activities as we can outside, so that we are visible and welcoming for people who may want to join in.
  • Prayer for child safety, especially with the large groups. There have also been concerns raised due to a recent incident in Perranporth, involving a stranger trying to lead a child away from their family. All has been fine so far, but we would appreciate prayer that the children stay safe with us.
  • Prayer for team members, many of whom have come from stressful situations at home this year. Please pray for energy and excitement, as well as peace and a chance to bring these situations to God.
  • Prayer for the new team members/leaders. We've got lots of new team and team in new roles this year. They are doing an amazing job, but please pray for them as they face challenges and unfamiliar situations, that God would give them courage and guidance.
